Alex Kunnari Tiistain Tanssi-illan biisivieraana
Tiistain Tanssi-illan ensimmäisellä tunnilla 31.3. biisivieraana kuullaan Colors-klubin ja -festivaalin isäntä Alex Kunnaria. Kunnari on lyönyt läpi tranceDJinä lukuisten hittien myötä, joista Suomessa muistetaan varmimmin miehen soolodebyytti Lifter. Kunnarin biisivierasosuudella kuullaan radioensi-iltansa saava vastavalmistunut uusi vokaaliraita Eternity.
Lisäksi Tanssi-illassa huima Oulu-edustus, mukana Sami Saari, Synan Timo Juuti ja Mashtronic-kokoonpanosta soolouralle ponkaissut Cid Inc. Ulkomaalaissoundia edustavat mm. Proff, Mango, Jay Lumen, Arno Cost ja Daniel Kandi. Näiden lisäksi kuullaan tuttuun tapaan viikon vinyyli sekä musauutiset.

Happy news. After my debut release One Sunday, the next release is already in sight. Russia-based artist Mango had heard Brotherhood and asked me and my brother to remix his next track, Raining in Osaka. I felt really priviledged as Mango is one of my favourite progressive house artists with absolutely fantastic soundscapes, very fragile and incredibly beautiful tracks. I really recommend checking his work if you haven’t already.
During the past weekend, before and after the latest One event, my brother and I put together Raining in Osaka chill-out remix, which I still tweaked on in Helsinki. After I played the first version to Mango, the things changed a bit and we ended up making a collab track of the original version, too. This original mix among the remixes will be out in late April 2009 and the chill-out version will see the daylight in October 2009 on Mango Alley Recordings sampler. The full length chill-out remix can be heard above.
“Tampere-fiilis” was a late 90’s phenomena in Tampere, purely born in local trance events when melodic trance was at its peak and rave culture enjoyed high popularity. I remember events like Taika ’98 in which people were dancing spontaniously hand-in-hand, club Tunnel with Coma and 3.14Sami spinning in an old, small rock club to 200+ clubbers every second Thursday, everybody going mental. I hope I haven’t become cynical when claiming that nearly a decade has passed in Tampere without any similar feeling of regular PLUR ;)
ONE has succeeded in something that felt like an impossible task a couple of years ago. It seemed that you couldn’t attract any audience without bringing bigger and bigger foreign acts even though it was just the fun and good atmosphere people were after. Saturday night at Tanssitalo, with hundreds and hundreds of people going insane and a lineup consisting of only former and current Tampere talents proved that you don’t need any foreign acts to get loose. Just a club full of your best friends and a long lost Tampere-fiilis :)
After a night like that, I can’t wait to get back to Tanssitalo. See you at the next One, on 30.5.2009.

Saksalainen Tomcraft saapuu Tiistain Tanssi-illan biisivieraaksi 17.3.2009. Viime syyskuussa ensimmäisen kerran Helsingin tanssilattioita lämmittänyt Tomcraft tunnetaan parhaiten takavuosien hitistään “Loneliness”, mutta viime vuodet ovat vieneet miestä teknomman soundin suuntaan. Tomcraft esiintyy Great Stuff -levymerkin 5-vuotiskiertueella myös Helsingin Playgroundissa 9.4.2009. Biisivierasosuudessa kuullaan kiertuekuulumiset sekä tietysti uutta soundia Tomcraftilta itseltään.

My one hour set from Pacifique 2009 is now online and downloadable.The set was played at Pacifique’s chill-out saunas, in which the DJ booth was build on the cold water pool and the music could be heard in all the saunas while taking a break from the partying. Talk about a perfect chill-out stage… :)

I’m heading to Vaasa this weekend – and strangely – I’ve never been there before. During the wild years of early 2000 the hard dance and trance scenes were vital both in Seinäjoki and Vaasa, but I never had a chance to witness the legendary Papinnenä atmosphere.
Virtual Factory is already the 13th annual event held in Vaasa and has lots of good publicity in the media. Local City Magazine writes about the event and University Student Mag, as well the Giga website cover it well, too.
I’m really looking forward to the event, the lineup and preparations look strong and what comes to all the emails I’ve received, it seems the promoters are also über-nice and very professional.
I’m sharing the stage with K-System, with whom I had plenty of fun a couple of weeks ago in Hämeenlinna’s PushUp event and Jangler, who is a long-time friend from Northern Finland times. He kept Ylivieska.org running there for years and held some amazing parties in the Ylivieska/Kalajoki area.

One of the most awaited events of the year is at hands. Pacifique is one day of summer in the middle of the coldest winter and probably one of those nights people will remember for years.
It was my first time last year to see all of it, and boy, was I excited :)
For those who hear about Pacifique for the first time: it’s a 2000 people party, held once a year at Serena, the biggest in-door spa in Northern Europe. Five stages and whole variety of electronic music and electronica. Sold out in less than a month this year.
In 2009, Pacifique will also see its first foreign guest, Alfredo, the godfather of Ibiza house. It’s the same guy who inspired the likes of Paul Oakenfold and Nicky Holloway back in the day and was the one to start the spirit of Ibiza people are still enjoying today. Really looking forward to see the guy in action.
Misc. will take care of artist coordination, so no getting loose (at least as much as last time:), but this is still one of the highlights of this year, needless to say. I’m also playing a one hour chill-out set at the saunas in a familiar From Rural To Urban spirit, starting at 22:30. Uransa kymppivuotisia tänä vuonna juhliva K-System saapuu Tiistain Tanssi-illan biisivieraaksi 3.3.2009. Juhlavuoden kunniaksi uuden albumin ja keikkakiertueen pyöräyttävä K-System kertoo Tanssi-illassa tulevaisuuden suunnitelmistaan ja soittaa vielä julkaisemattoman remiksin vanhasta hitistään.

During the past year, Clinic has been bringing some quality trance jocks like Above & Beyond and Menno De Jong to Helsinki and I think mr. This Saturday Chooned event hits Messukeskus, Turku. The event is among the biggest electronic music events organized in Turku area in years and with 16 Bit Lolitas, Sean Tyas and Agnelli & Nelson headlining it’s definitely one of the most interesting. Sound-wise the event looks very strong and I’m looking forward to hear 16 Bit Lolitas live. Their sound has evolved to more technoish direction which – in my opinion – hasn’t been only a good thing, but I’m sure also the new less uplifting tunes will be strong enough from a big PA system.
The main event starts already at 19:00 and goes on until 03. The Finnish lineup includes local Choon club resident Jussi Soro and promoter Nenna and my YleX colleague OlliS.
At 03:00 the party has a short break (thanks to Finnish legislation) and continues at 05:00 sharp in the centrum of Turku at Klubi. The afterparty is organized by LCS possé, who have been lately travelling around Finland with their club concept and several foreign prog talents.
I’ll be starting the afterparty with 1,5h set of trancey tunes and local heroes Homegrove, Progression, Ali King, Mick Elsa and DJ Seb will follow.
Looking very, very much forward to another Turku excursion.

I’ll be visiting Teosto (Finnish equivalent to RIAA, roughly speaking) next Monday morning. Me and Miika Kuisma were invited to talk about the possible changes to their DJ licensing policy and to update their knowledge of today’s electronic music culture. Excited? Yes.
I’ve gone through loads to critical posts I’ve written in the past, polished arguments and written stuff down. Still, I’m very very open to all the comments or greetings all you electronic music lovers have. Feel free to drop any thoughts to the comment box below.

Jo yli 12 vuoden ajan tranceskenessä vaikuttanut pohjois-irlantilainen kaksikko kertoo kuulumiset ahkeran keikkailun keskeltä ja pyöräyttää kappaleen verran omaa trademark-soundiaan.
