Perjantaina 4.3. YleX:n illassa biisivieraana Pacifiquen päätähti Chris Coco, soitossa uusi Tom Fallin sinkku Untouchable, uusi Hybrid-sinkkulohkaisu ja Viikon Vinyyli vuodelta 2002. Suomalaisista soitossa Bright Shades, Lenno ja Jesse Oliver, ulkomaisista lautasilla Myon & Shane54, Wippenberg, Fedde Le Grand, Chase & Status, Arkia ja osuvan nimen valinnut Mord Fustang.

Viikon XmiXissä kuullaan tunnin verran Suomen aamubileiden ehdotonta ykkösnimeä, Paul Easya. Nykyään Berliinissä asuva, mutta ahkerasti Suomen päässä keikkaileva artisti valottaa Helsingin aamubilekulttuuria ja pyöräyttää tunnin miksauksen tuoreinta tech-housea ja teknoa.

Ohjelma on kuultavissa jälkikäteen Ylen Areenalla viikon ajan.

YleX:n DJ-ohjelman klubikaupunkiesittelyssä Seinäjoki & Vaasa

Maanantaina 1.3.2010 YleX:n DJ-tunnilla tutustutaan Seinäjoen ja Vaasan tämän hetken klubitarjontaan ja -historiaan. Klubikaupunkiosuudessa äänessä on Syna– ja Deck Jagger-duoistakin tuttu Toni Kurkimäki, joka toimii myös promoottorina Fiksaatio-organisaatiossa.

Lisäksi ensisoitossa Hybridin uusi Break My Soul -sinkku, kuukauden (tech-)houseraidat, BT-henkistä breakbeattia kanadalaiselta Phrakturelta, kuukauden suomitrancevalinta, joukko huimia drum n’ bass -uutuuksia Mufflerilta sekä viikon vinyyli.

Picks from the crate #1 – DJ Kim

This is my first post in “Picks from the crate” series. I’m picking up meaningful, old, rare, fresh and interesting CDs, mixtapes and vinyls from my record collection and ranting about them. Unlike in today’s digital music collection, I feel like there are 1000 stories in my record shelf, waiting to be told. Let this be the first one.

I bought this double mixCD while visiting some club event held in Tampere-Talo in 2001. I had just moved to Rovaniemi and thought a piece of my previous hometown in a form of two CDs wouldn’t do any harm. What I got, is pure awesomeness still today.

I guess everyone remembers Kim (or KimiK) as a house jock, but in the around the beginning of the new millennium many DJs in Tampere had sort of a identity crisis. Infekto tried a new alias “Rec”, many techno DJs went into hard house, trance DJs got bored and started playing “more interesting” progressive music (Stephanie K & Creamer, anyone? ;) and also KimiK went into new grounds – towards more melodic and trancey sound.

Nevertheless, this must be his best mixtape, including the most amazing progressive and trancey house tunes of the early 00’s. There’s Starecase, Hybrid, BT, Ashtrax, Cass&Slide, Maurice’s Feline, Stakker’s Humanoid, Max Graham’s Airtight etc etc… I guess anyone who lived through the 1999-2001 electronic music hype in Tampere shouldn’t miss this. Anyone else still having this in the shelf?

(A cool detail – in the inner sleeve there’s a note “Mixed live at the Kaleva Cathouse with Tamperefiilis(tm)” ;)

Photos & tracklist: One, Tampere 21.3.2009

“Tampere-fiilis” was a late 90’s phenomena in Tampere, purely born in local trance events when melodic trance was at its peak and rave culture enjoyed high popularity. I remember events like Taika ’98 in which people were dancing spontaniously hand-in-hand, club Tunnel with Coma and 3.14Sami spinning in an old, small rock club to 200+ clubbers every second Thursday, everybody going mental. I hope I haven’t become cynical when claiming that nearly a decade has passed in Tampere without any similar feeling of regular PLUR ;)

ONE has succeeded in something that felt like an impossible task a couple of years ago. It seemed that you couldn’t attract any audience without bringing bigger and bigger foreign acts even though it was just the fun and good atmosphere people were after. Saturday night at Tanssitalo, with hundreds and hundreds of people going insane and a lineup consisting of only former and current Tampere talents proved that you don’t need any foreign acts to get loose. Just a club full of your best friends and a long lost Tampere-fiilis :)

After a night like that, I can’t wait to get back to Tanssitalo. See you at the next One, on 30.5.2009.

Hybridistä hybridiin

Tiistain tanssi-illassa on luvassa 19.2. kaksikin spesiaalituntia.

Eteläwalesilainen Hybrid on rikkonut ja asettanut uusiksi elektronisen tanssimusiikin rajapyykkejä modernin progressiivisen breakbeatin ja klassisen musiikin yhdistelmällään. Lähes 300 omaa kappaletta ja remixiä tuottaneen duon uraan ja sen viime käänteisiin perehdytään DJ Orionin osuudella klo 21.

Speed garage oli reilut 10 vuotta sitten brittitanssimusiikin uusin keksintö, josta juontuivat UK garageksi, 4/4 houseksi ja lopulta grimeksikin kutsutut urbaanit klubigenret. Nyt speed garage on tekemässä paluuta uudessa muodossa ja nimellä bassline house. Jos tyylien ja termien kirjo pökerryttää, niin selventäviä esimerkkejä sekä vanhasta että uudesta soittaa DJ Infekto omassa klo 23 starttaavassa spesiaalissaan.
