Slusnik Luna – Sun 2011 (DJ Orion & J Shore Remix) by Anjunabeats

You can never have too much of a good thing. Following Slusnik Luna’s superb ‘2011’ and the much-loved 4 Strings remix, we have a bumper package of ‘Sun 2011’ remixes – each adding their own individual slant to this updated classic.

First up, though is the legendary track that inspired all these updates – the original ‘Sun’ anthem from 2000. Regarded by many as one of the most legendary trance tracks of all time, for those that missed out on Slusnik Luna’s original ‘Sun’ anthem (which actually made the UK top 40 pop charts back in the day), it’s here in all its uplifting, bleepy glory.

The bouncy, electronic house rework from Joonas Hahmo is an upbeat rework that captures the original’s uplifting elements in a fresh, Ibiza-ready groove.

Resident at UK trance bastion Passion, upcoming producer Genix takes things into darker, deeper territory with his gnarly, innovative rework – full of worming bass grooves and sneaky melody snippets.

Rising Finnish star Heikki L turns in a progressive-tweaked electro-trance powerhouse, while DJ Orion & J Shore recruit some live strings for their elegant and gloriously slo-mo chill-out reinterpretation – a beautiful, alternative listening experience.

Case: Steve Angello – KNAS (Arrogant, stupid or damn smart?)

By Uncategorized4 Comments

See the video above (if you can’t see it, check it on Youtube). Skip to 1:20 if you’re too lazy to see the bass tweaking in the beginning.

To refer what’s happening in the video: Steve Angello’s Beatport #1 hit “KNAS” is basically put together from samples taken directly from Vengeance Future House Vol.3 package. You could make the same track with Ableton Live in two minutes. (The “hit melody” riff is “VFH2 128BPM Capone Kit : VFH2 128BPM Capone Melody 2”)

I think it was Sebastian Leger who first wrote on his Twitter about it some weeks ago, DJ Flight retweeted it soon after and finally Beatportal covered it this morning. Interestingly, the Beatportal post was removed in a couple of hours, as well as the video explaining the stunt.

When Angello’s doing tracks like that, I really can’t tell if he is arrogant, lacking skills or just plain stupid. Or is it the customer who is stupid when buying anything offered under the name of Swedish House Mafia? I really can’t tell any other artist who could (or even would try to) bring a track to Beatport TOP10 which is put together just from Vengeance samples.

edit: On his Twitter, Steve Angello was defending himself saying: “Everyone can sample . Its about finding the sample , how you use the sample , how you produce the track .. Look at every single hip hop track from gang starr , kanye west , jay z , to anyone u can name .. They always sample but makes a hit out of it .. Look at daft punk , even prodigy & chemical brothers Its easy to judge after the sample is discovered. Be the first to use it or stop judging.”

Comparing KNAS kind of sampling to Prodigy and Chemical Brothers doesn’t make Steve really look any smarter. D’oh!

DJDownload.com closes (or does it?)

By UncategorizedNo Comments

DJDownload.com closes its doors. That’s sad. Here’s an email I got into my hands:

“Dear Label Partner
It is with great regret that we have to inform you that DJdownload Limited has been placed into administration by the Directors of the company effective today.

The Directors have worked extremely hard over the past few months to try and save the company: overheads were reduced and attempts to increase revenues were made but ongoing efforts to raise further finance were unsuccessful. Despite their best efforts the company was not able to continue to trade.

We would like to thank you for your support and business over the years and we wish you all the best in the future.

If you have any questions with regard to UNPAID ROYALTIES from DJDownload Limited please contact:

Marguerite Webster – Case Administrator at Bridge Business Recovery
E-mail: marguerite.webster@bridgebr.co.uk
Phone: +44 207 025 6139

Yours sincerely
Justin Pearse”

Now let me predict – Beatport.com will raise their prices within one year.

Edit (06.11.2009): It seems the story is not over. About 24h after the first news, Juno has acquired DJDownload. If anyone has an official link, please post it below. Here’s the official link (thanks to Homegrove!): http://www.junodownload.com/plus/2009/11/06/juno-steps-in-to-keep-dj-download-online/

Trainspotter’s heaven:

“Ever been to a club and heard a DJ drop a great record that afterwards you were desperate to name? Or ever listened to a DJ mix and felt compelled to track down that bomb from 00.15.36? Yes, we have too. That’s why we’ve decided to launch a brand new Track ID section on Beatportal, which we’re calling BeatDetect.”

New Beatport

Beatport will update January 21st, 2009 and gave a short preview of the features to come.

Finally – a playlist and a possibility for cueing tracks, a long waited feature. The sample seems to be divided to several areas. Is that a feature to listen several samples of the track like at DJDownload? And hopefully they’ve also added a feature to buy only a part of the tracks you’ve added to your cart.

Pros and cons of mp3 shops

By MusicNo Comments

Listing the pros and cons of mp3 shops

Beatport:
Pros:
+ Very good RSS-feed. Direct links to mp3s, possibility for listening via feed reader, no need to visit the site. However – the feeds are impossible to find.
+ Keyboard shortcuts. However – rewinding and fast forwarding only work if the sample has fully loaded.
+ Very good podcast with one-click-purchase option (works on iTunes).
Cons:
– No possibility to queue the tracks for listening. Needs constant attention. Wastes your time.

Audiojelly:
Cons:
– Charts. Are there any?
– Default currency is pound.
– Who browses music alphabetically by labels, artists or albums? No one? Why to have these features on every page?
– Podcast – good idea. But Gareth Emery’s podcast – why?
Pros:
+ You got rid of your awful music player with annoying swwwwooooosh flash animations.

DJDownload:
Cons:
– Player on external page. Nasty, evil feature. Get rid of it!
– Where’s your podcast?
Pros:
+ Possibility to queue all the tracks for listening on certain pages.
+ Lowered their prices. Waiting for the call of the other shops…

Did I forget to mention something?

Beatport RSS feeds

By MusicNo Comments

Beatport RSS feeds

This feature has nearly doubled the amount of digital music I’m buying. It’s very useful, fast – and addictive.
Some guy has found a way to create rss feeds from latest Beatport releases. As I’m using Netvibes, it was easy to drop the feeds I want on my personal Netvibes and boom – now I’ll get the latest progressive, breaks, electro and house releases directly to my start page – in real time.
In order to listen to them, I don’t need to visit Beatport – Netvibes has a built-in podcast/media player, which works like a charm. If I find something worth buying I just click on the link and end up to the release site of Beatport.

Get the Beatport rss feeds and try it out.

Gramex vastaa mp3-kyselyyn

By Music17 Comments

DJ-ystäväni lähestyi Gramexia kysyäkseen mp3-tiedostojen soittomuodollisuuksista ja siihen liittyvistä mahdollisista korvauksista. Ohessa lähetetty maili ja siihen saatu vastaus.

Tervehdys.

Netissä liikkuu monenlaista tietoa digitaalisessa muodossa ostetun musiikin julkisesta soitosta. Tahtoisin tietoa seuraavasta tapauksesta:

Ostospaikkana on http://www.beatport.com, kyseisen ostospaikan FAQ-osiosta löytyy seuraava kohta:

Can I DJ with files purchased from Beatport?
This can only be answered on a territorial basis. In the United States and UK, the Answer is YES, buying a track from Beatport is just like buying a record from the record store. The same legal implications are in effect. However, certain Territories have different restrictions regarding the legality of playing Digital Music files. We suggest you visit the website of your local publishing / mechanicals service to get a more detailed answer. We also recommend that you keep a copy of your order receipts with your music to prove that you have purchased your music legally. Beatport has taken the time to create agreements with all labels involved with our site and provide you with digital, legal alternatives to the music you may have purchased on record previously.

Luvan hinta on 1,22 €/biisi.

terveisin

(Beatport näyttää muuten kirjeen perusteella olevan Gramexille “Beatpot”. On tainnut mennä Gramexilla Beatport ja järjestön kassaan kilahtava Jackpot sekaisin ;)
