Project: Photobooth

The same in Finnish.

A couple of days ago I finally managed to finish a project which had been on a to-do stage for some weeks already: a photobooth usable for clubbing or event purposes.

The idea itself is very simple. The photobooth is big enough for two or three people. There is a button on the right side wall which one of the users pushes. It takes two seconds and two ‘beeps’ and then the camera shoots. A small screen on the front wall shows the result.

Ok, nothing new in this. But then the software uploads the photo directly to Flickr. Using Flickr, the latest photos can be screened in real time at the club and/or on the website of the event.

Why did I get interested in a project like this? Using an automat is definitely cheaper than hiring a professional photographer and even though the photos won’t be as good as the professionally shot ones, the feeling in an automatic booth is more relaxed than in front of the photographer.

In addition the photos can be published without any delay, which makes it possible to make a realtime slideshow at the event and share the photos via internet to those who aren’t at the venue.

How does this work? By using a small about of script and software I managed to use the computer remotely with infrared – with one push remote control tells the camera connected to the computer to shoot a photograph, tag it and upload it to Flickr. All you need is a camera, a computer, a small feedback monitor (not necessary) and internet connection (with a cell phone if no broadband is available).

The photobooth will be built for some events of Kuudes Linja during the upcoming spring (more info later). If you have an idea concerning the use of the photobooth, feel free to contact me.

Haha, I just had to come and say, that I love this idea. Pics wouldn´t be much different if compared to 99% of party picture :)
