A perfect DJ website

April 2, 2006

Today basically all the active DJs have a website. Bedroom DJs build their own site to promote themselves and forums like Platinum, NTF or Klubitus offer a possibility to add your DJ-biography and other information there. This hasn’t been like this for too long – in 2000, only a few DJs had their own site. At the moment it seems though that you do not even exist as a DJ if you don’t have your information online.

Well, what makes a good DJ website?

I think the main purpose of the DJ website is to provide the event promoter all the information he/she needs. Good quality promotion photos, copy/pasteable biography and list of upcoming gigs to prevent any double bookings. And that’s it. Everything else is extra.

Are DJ websites for promoters then? If you are really willing to get other people to your website and make them still return after a couple of days, you should u-p-d-a-t-e. And notify about the updates on the main page. The more you update, the more visitors you’ll get. Simple.

People say that a blog on a DJ’s website is quite useless. I have to agree. If you’re writing only about your past gigs and how aaaawesome it was, it gets boring in less than one month. But most DJs have a HUGE amount of opinions about music, music production and club culture. Sharing the thoughts about them is something which would make at least me return to their sites all over again. Personal opinions are just much more interesting than a flash coded blingbling super dynamic website with the latest TOP20 chart and Latest news updated in March 2003. That’s why it’s such a pity that there are so few DJs blogging at the moment.

For this lazy Sunday afternoon blog entry I browsed through quite an amount of Finnish DJ websites. I have to admit that majority of them make me ask “why was this site done?”. Some of the sites are really nice, but updated only once a month or so – and some… well… some just are.

Take a look:

DJ KUMi | Båssanova | DJ Tab | Holle & Radiac | Loopy | TeemuP | Cid Inc. | Tearrain | Luminescent | Miazu | Niko Amee | Remotion | Scape | Kenjido Okiru | Benn | DJ Ville E | San Mejor | DJ Gateway | Ken-Guru | Rasmus Hedlund | De Souza | Jussi Soro | Miika Kuisma | DJ Proteus | DJ Orkidea | DJ Seb | Eliot Ness | Peak Twins | Caro² | Karri O | OlliS | DJ Flight | DJ Flaikku | DJ Orfeus | A98 |
(Is the list lacking something? Put the link to comments.)

Miika Kuisma’s site seems to be closest of the DJ website what I prefer. What’s your favourite?
