Kehto Magazine started

By UncategorizedOne Comment

A fresh looking Finnish webzine Kehto started some weeks ago on the obvious address www.kehto.fi.

Kehto describes itself shortly:

KEHTO Magazine on suomalainen, elektroniseen tanssimusiikkiin keskittynyt verkkolehti.

From my perspective, Kehto is very promising newcomer for various reasons:
** Despite being built on WordPress, it’s not and doesn’t try to be a blog.
** It takes advantage of social media like Facebook and Twitter.
** It isn’t related on one music genre only, it has several “reporters” and it’s being updated often (not often enough, though;).
** It writes articles, reviews and stories – not short opinions or posts.
** It doesn’t represent anyone – and therefore – it has credibility.
** It’s written in Finnish.

I believe the future of online forums like Klubitus.org or Pltnm.org is a format like this. Combining online discussion forum to a platform where experts and promoters write articles about the music scene is a concept, which I’d really love to see. Maybe within one year Kehto could be combined to a vital discussion forum or it could even start its own. Anyway, I raise my thumbs up to a new kid in town! :)

New address: www.djorion.fi

By UncategorizedNo Comments

As a technical sidenote: As you might have noticed, my website domain has changed to www.djorion.fi. Everything still works if you use the old url orion.reaktio.net, but I strongly recommend updating your bookmarks to the new one.
RSS-feed and podcast addresses remain the same as before.

New Gallery online

By UncategorizedNo Comments

Some of you might have noticed the new link in the website main navigation. The new Photo Gallery was opened yesterday including tons of photos from the past years, from different events, cities, projects and tours.
Feel free to browse through – and it you feel like contributing, you can always add new photos by uploading them to Flickr and tagging them with “djorionweb_gigs”.

New Beatport

By Uncategorized2 Comments

Beatport will update January 21st, 2009 and gave a short preview of the features to come.

Finally – a playlist and a possibility for cueing tracks, a long waited feature. The sample seems to be divided to several areas. Is that a feature to listen several samples of the track like at DJDownload? And hopefully they’ve also added a feature to buy only a part of the tracks you’ve added to your cart.

Updated Evergreen

By UncategorizedNo Comments

The Evergreen section is now fully updated. It’s a short.. or actually a bit longer story of the evergreen moments of early Tampere scene, years in Northern Finland and recent times in Helsinki. It includes lots of links to videos, photos, articles and websites, feel free to browse them through.
And – if you happen to have any related memories, photos or videos or if you just want to share the nostalgia, there’s a comment box in the end of the post.
Now – check Evergreen!

New DJ Orion website

I’m happy to announce that the new version of my website is now ready. It’s been over two years (equals nearly forever in internet :) since the website got its last major update and I’m very pleased with the new one. I’d also love to hear your comments – and if you find any bugs or things which don’t look good, please let me know.

Misc. Management website preview

Misc website, front page

Here’s the preview to the brand new Misc Management website. It will be online any day now (most likely on Friday / Saturday). Above is the main page and below you see how the artist pages are going to look like.

Let’s take a closer look at the features.

1) If you don’t like the background colour, come back later. Misc website has a built-in emotion detector which changes the background colour to match the current feeling of the user. It’s not a perfect detector, but expect the colour change at least once in an hour ;)

2) As you see below, all the artist pages are powered with YouTube and Flickr. Flickr integration allows Flickr users add photos to the galleries and on the artist pages (kind of similar thing what you already saw on the Metaverse Tour) and simplifies sharing the latest artist promo pictures.
YouTube enables us to add fan videos and tracks directly from YouTube to our site. This is pretty simple 2.0. stuff, but after browsing through many agency website I couldn’t find any which would actively use similar features.

3) On Events and Collaborations section you can find bigger Flickr galleries going back to the early years of Misc (We are already 8 years old in July :) and detailed information of the past partnerships with different companies. Also the DJ list is finally up-to-date.

4) Many thanks to Tuomo and Niko for great and professional php help and tips during the project. Huge thank-yous go to Viljami who designed and put the site together and put his time and heart on the code. Viljami is a very professional and nice guy – keep your eye on him for the future for any 3D, Flash, CSS or webdesign tasks. Thanks to all the friends who tested the site and gave your improvement comments, we are working on them.

See www.misc.fi on Friday/Saturday this week to give a test drive to the new site.

New website online and running

Layout ready

The new website is now online. Yes, it’s the one you’re watching right now.

After several hours of tweaking, I can’t help deeply hating CSS and IE6 combo. When everything was supposed to be ready, nothing was. Now the site works perfectly on latest Firefox, Safari3 and Opera, well on Safari2 and IE7 and on IE6 the layout sucks, but at least it works.

What’s new?

1. This feature I like the most: By adding a tag djorionweb_prods or djorionweb_gigs on your Flickr photos or YouTube videos, you can make them visible on this site – either on Gigs & Booking site or on Productions, depending on the tag.

2. On the main page there’s now the NEWS section. That’s basically the most important news from the blog. Dynamically, wheee :)

3. No more Podcast site, instead a larger site called Media. It includes the latest YouTube videos, Jaikus, feeds, links to the outside world and the Podcast, of course.

4. Productions site has been re-written, no more one million different flyers. If you want to see more flyer art, click on the photos on the right side of the page.

5. And yes, layout is new. Did I mention it already? ;)

I hope you enjoy the update.
