Busy weekend ahead: 9 Opening, Summer Heat, Sasha XmiX, Tampere Rave City…

This weekend sees the most hectic schedule of the summer of 2011.

Friday: “9 – The Opening” @ Esplanadi, Helsinki

On Friday I’ll take a flight from Berlin to Helsinki to join the private event “9 – The Opening”. UU guys (which you might remember from last year’s UU Island) will be constructing a 400m2 venue on Esplanadi with Open Bar (drinks by Tuukka Ahonen & co.), some 4 hour lounge/house/electronica vibes from me and other surprises. It’s a semi private event, but if you can get an invitation to the Facebook event somewhere, it means you’re in. I still have 10 invitations left – if you want one, mail me your email address (it has to be the same you use for logging to Facebook) and I’ll mail you the invitation. The invitation includes avec.

Friday: Summer Heat, Vanhan YO-talon terassi, Helsinki

Right after UU closes its doors, I’ll head to Vanha. Summer Heat has gained lots of support this summer and is definitely one of the nicest weekly terrace events in Helsinki to check out. It’s not lounging but some seriously fun house music biznezz, grab your dance shoes and join the Gude Laune. I’ll be starting at 01:00. Check the Facebook event for more details.

XmiX: Sasha (UK)

If you can’t make it to the events, make sure to tune in to YleX at 23:00 for a weekly musical journey of XmiX. Sasha – the headliner of Love event in Circus on 23.7. – will be delivering a one hour crazycool XmiX and telling some news (for example about Involver 3) on the interview. In case you can’t check it live, you can always listen to it on Yle Areena on-demand one week after the broadcast.

Saturday: Tampere Rave City

After some 7 hours of DJing on Friday, I’ll take the train to the middle of Tampere-fiilis on this year’s Tammerfest craziness. This time the rave spirit takes over Pyynikin palloiluhalli with danish Funkstar DeLuxe headlining and Finnish Alex Kunnari, Joonas Hahmo, Tremont and me doing the warmup. Sunday?! I have this image before my eyes of sitting totally wrecked on the flight back to Berlin. It seems I have lots to catch up to gain the normal Berlin clubbing endurance.

DJ Orion & J.Shore on Solarstone’s “Electronic Architecture 2” compilation

Dj Orion & J. Shore – Architect’s Dream (EA2 Dub) by solarstone

Two years ago this month Solarstone released the compilation album ‘Electronic Architecture’. It was nominated for Best Compilation at the 2010 IDMAs and won press plaudits for its imaginative concept, with Tilllate hailing it as “a magical blend of music, art and design” and DJ Mag calling it “a genuine gem”.

Now the follow up to the boundary breaking compilation adventure is near. “Electronic Architecture²” captures the essence of what we all love about trance” says MIXMAG. The compilation will be released on 25.4.2011.

DJ Orion & J.Shore – Architect’s Dream will be a closing track of the whole compilation. Naturally, we are incredibly happy and proud to be part of one of the most unique and original electronic music compilations of today.

This Saturday: Super8&Tab album release event + 2,5h set @ After Hours

This Saturday sees the long awaited debut album release event of Super8 & Tab, the most successful Finnish trance duo. The parrrrty will take place at Virgin Oil with – naturally – Super8 & Tab headlining. Me and DJ Orkidea will do the backup.
Downstairs summer club Mixxed hosts Niko Geselle and Tony Profondo will take care of the proper vibe.
Super8&Tab will start at midnight and I’ll be doing the warmup 22-00 with a trancey state of mind.

I will also play a 2,5h set at the afterparty 05:00-07:30 at Playground on a way more tech-house/techno tip. If the evening wasn’t long enough, this might be a place to give a shot.

Good weekend coming up. Let’s get it on.

This Friday – LCS @ Klubi, Turku

I’m returning to Turku this Friday to celebrate the local Liquid Crystal Sounds club promoter’s – DJ Progression’s 30th birthday. He is throwing a party at Klubi with Joonas Hahmo, himself and me sharing the sounds.

Funny coincidence – we almost have the same birthdate, I’m having my own 30th anniversary today so it feels great to join the birthday vibes on Friday. In addition to the latest proggy/trance tunes, I’ll be grabbing some old classics with me – just to remind myself that it’s just us getting old, not the good music ;)

I’ll be behind the decks on Friday at Klubi, Turku at 01:30-03:30. See you there :)

Picks from the crate #2, Sven Väth

Today’s crate pick is one of my earliest influences, a long player that still amazes me today, Sven Väth‘s second album The Harlequin – The Robot and the Ballet-Dancer. I can’t remember where I heard this for the first time, but I had a copied C-cassette for four years until I bought a CD copy in 1998 in Essen, Germany for 29.99DM.

Released on Eye-Q in 1994, you can’t help hearing both Sven’s interest in early German trance sound and producer Ralf Hildenbeutel’s influence on the recording process. The booklet has a rather funny computer generated pics of Sven (see below) as well as a weird quote by Erasmus, which can also be heard on the intro track of the record.

But what hit me most when I first heard the LP through was the ending. Ballet-series, a 16 minute journey from Ballet-Romance’s string sections to acid sounds of Ballet-Fusion and finally to chill-out rhythms of Ballet-Dancer must be the first truly epic trance track I’ve ever heard (check the video below). Personally I would say this LP is one of the milestones of German oldskool trance and when looking Sven today you see we’ve come a long, long way from those days :)

Brotherhood signed to Lost Language

Happy news. The legendary trance label, Lost Language, has signed my second single Brotherhood.

I’m really excited of the possibility of getting Brotherhood released on that particular label. It’s one of my all-time favourite trance labels which released amazing tunes already in the early 2000. The label was originally a parent label of Hooj Choons and led by Ben Lost, but it works independently today.

Some of my personal Lost Language highlights are Solarstone’s Seven Cities, Salt Tank’s Eugina, Barraka’s Song To A Siren, Lustral’s Broken, Midway’s Monkey Forest, Tilt’s The World Doesn’t Know and many, many more.

DJ Orion & J.Shore – Brotherhood will be out in November 2009 on Lost Language including remixes from Ayleon, Flight & Jontey, DJ Taucher and Anton Sonin. Listen to the clips and read more.

YleX:n Tiistain Tanssi-illan ekalla tunnilla jouluaatonaattona 23.12. otetaan katsaus trancen historiaan vuodesta 1991 vuoteen 2003. Kutakin vuotta edustamaan on valittu yksi kappale, joka heijastelee trance-soundin muutoksia 90-luvun alusta tähän päivään. Tunnin aikana kurkataan 90-luvun alun hypnoottiseen ja hitaaseen trance-soundiin, rave-ajan BPM-rajoja rikkoneeseen tiukempaan poljentoon, progehousen läpilyöntiin ja tietysti trancen kulta-ajaksikin kutsuttuun vuosituhannen vaihteeseen.
