Album preview 2/11 – Orion & J.Shore – Architect’s Dream (Brotherhood album OUT NOW) by Orion & J.Shore
ALBUM PREVIEW 2/11
Orion & J.Shore – Architect’s Dream
J.Shore: “Architect’s Dream got started from an old draft which I kept on my computer. Building the track was a very architectural process for us – having just the melody and adding layers and layers on it. For the album version we added the piano theme after the breakdown, which also includes one of the most cliche jazz phrases. Cliche or not – it works here brilliantly.”
(Check the jazz phrase: listen to the clip of Architect’s Dream here: http://soundcloud.com/orion-jshore/orion-j-shore-architects-dream and compare it to the video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=krDxhnaKD7Q )
Orion: “Rich (Solarstone) was compiling his Electronic Architecture 2 compilation and asked if we would have any ambient/chill-out tune ready. Architect’s Dream was just a very nasty sounding draft at that time but Rich heard the potential and asked us to finish it. It became the closing track of Electronic Architecture 2 and got really nice reviews. The album version is slightly altered with a new piano theme, mixing and the intro vocal.”

ALBUM PREVIEW 1/11
Orion & J.Shore – One Sunday
J.Shore: “I still remember that Sunday morning in autumn 2008. We were partying the whole previous night and the session next morning didn’t look too good. Even though it was our first time making music together, the track was finished only in a couple of hours. Magical session.”
Orion: “One Sunday is our very first single. It was highly supported by DJ Orkidea who introduced us and our music to Solarstone while he was on a gig in Tampere. Solarstone signed the track to his label Solaris and Beetseekers, Cid Inc, Sami Saari, Syna and Ville Lope delivered superb and very Finnish sounding remixes. It was a clear choice to open our debut album.”

Tracklist: DJ Orion @ DJ Orkidea’s 20 years of DJing & album release tour – Senssi, Lahti 17.12.2011
Awesome weekend in Seinäjoki & Lahti. The audience was off the hook at both parties and it was a privilege to play after the main man Orkidea finishing his official tour set. It was great to see how well Orkidea’s new and old tracks went down – no matter if it’s about more hypnotic vibes such as “Sphere” or “Slowmotion” or ravey tunes like Flight 643 remix or brand new Solarstone’s remix of Unity, the crowd was enjoying it at its fullest.
Below is the exact tracklist of the event in Lahti. The tracks in Seinäjoki were more or less the same, in slightly different order. While Seinäjoki was a bit more on a full-on trancey tip (like Atlantis – Fiji (Alpha Duo remix) and Solid Globe – North Pole (Sean Bayer remix), which were played only there), Lahti went to more techno/rave direction (like Maas’ Jetstream and Misjah’s Access).

I’m super happy to jump on the plane and join DJ Orkidea’s Album Release Tour this weekend. On Friday it’s Seinäjoki time – the latest parties at Karma have been nothing but amazing: sold-out venue, brilliant crowd and Pohojammaa-vibe which is non-describable (because afterwards you don’t remember a thing). Lahti, the Chicago of Finland is up on Saturday and equally exciting. I’ll be closing the night after Orkidea’s performance so the music should go to a pretty uplifting direction this time. Can’t wait!
And yes – you can buy Orion & J.Shore’s new album “Brotherhood” both in Seinäjoki and Lahti. It’s out on Friday so you’ll be among the very first to get a copy. Besides, I have a feeling that a chill-out record will be handy after these tour nights ;)
Massive respect to Orkidea, big thumbs up for his new album and making it possible for us to join “20” tour.

Orion & J.Shore – The Night After (Silk Digital)
Original + Michael Cassette & Shingo Nakamura remixes out on 01.11.2011.
—
On Silk Digital’s latest release, “The Night After,” the dynamic Finnish duo Orion & J.Shore treat us to another visionary cut from their forthcoming artist album, “Brotherhood” (which officially arrives to Beatport on Dec. 16). However, before we arrive at their inspiring Original Mix (the last track in the pack), we are treated to several uptempo interpretations by two of the most currently celebrated acts in progressive: Michael Cassette and Shingo Nakamura.
Not unlike the original artists of this release, Michael Cassette is a now internationally recognized Finnish duo, whose dramatic rise over the past few years culminated recently with the release of their artist album “Temporarity” [Anjunadeep]. Their remix of “The Night After” is a fair representation of the unique sonic niche that they have carved within the progressive genre. More specifically, after an extended “teaser” intro, the song energetically launches into a vintage 80’s bassline, the aggressive, yet polished character of which has truly become the main signature of the exceedingly talented duo. Soon thereafter, a lead synth chord progression emerges, as arps dance above. In the main break, the poignant string plucks of the Original Mix slowly creep into the track, and then are suddenly reversed, as the rhythm picks up again. Also included in the pack is an alternate “Club Edit,” which shortens the main break, as to prevent any risk of club-goers losing interest / momentum on the dancefloor.
Silk fans will be delighted to discover that Shingo Nakamura, fresh off the launch of his own triumphant artist album (“Sapporo,” which remained in the top 5 Beatport releases for several weeks following its debut), is back with an unsurprisingly sophisticated and melodic rendering. The track starts out with a soothing house rhythm and the slow crescendo of an array of glorious arpeggios. As we approach the main break, a deep bass begins to gather energy and the arps become more aggressively resonant and layered. In the break itself, we are treated to a solo of the Spanish guitar from the Original, followed by the beautiful coalescence of this instrument with piano and strings. In the latter half of the tune, delicate piano lines (a Nakamura signature) joins the deep bass progression and celestial arpeggios.
Finally, the Original Mix of the tune is presented; like the rest of the tracks on the forthcoming “Brotherhood” album, the composition falls squarely in the “cinematic soundtrack” niche. To be more clear on this point, the song’s use of age-old instruments, including violins and even a lead harp melody, immediately evokes a “fairy-tale” world — music that would not be out of place accompanying the current (and widely popular) “Game of Thrones” series. It is worth affirming, though, that Orion & J.Shore’s original, which is built upon a haunting string motif, is a unique, intricate, and truly breathtaking composition, not just an homage to the soundtrack pieces that are often mindlessly inserted into fantasy / adventure films. We cordially invite you to delve deep into this one for an escapist and deeply moving aural experience. tune is presented; like the rest of the tracks on the forthcoming “Brotherhood” album, the composition falls squarely in the “cinematic soundtrack” niche.
