Paluu Suomeen ja kesän/syksyn keikat

Heinäkuussa pitäisi sitten päättää Berliinin ekskursio ja palata Suomeen. Kivaa on, että jo tässä vaiheessa on varmistunut, että loppukesällä ja syksyllä tulee reissattua isosti pitkin kotimaata. Nähdään ainakin Lahdessa, Tampereella, Kajaanissa, Kalajoella, Raahessa, Turussa ja Helsingissä – ja lisää tulossa kunhan päästään lähemmäs kesää.

Odotan myös innolla, että pääsen kertomaan lisää erittäin mielenkiintoisesta uudesta klubiresidenssistä, joka alkaa syksyllä sekä fiiliksistä kesän ja syksyn myötä starttaavien “Orion DJ/Live”-keikkojen saralla.

Photos: Summer in Berlin (and beyond)…

As some of you might know, I’ve been keeping a photo blog for the past year here in Berlin. Here are some of my personal highlights of the past summer.
So, what did I do?

Finally met my childhood hero.

Visited amazingly beautiful Wannsee.

Got to the Dome.

Regretted of not being younger.

Realized that Lahti never lets you down. Hosting was pretty good, too… ;)

Visited Singapore.

… and Malaysia.

Didn’t feel alone watching football.

Finally got some.

Found some real weird children books.

Got addicted.

Visited abandoned military hospital.

Found a new favorite band.

Raved at S-Bahnhof.

Tried to get most out of cloudy July.

Found out that agony has 240 steps.

Broadcasted live from Kajaani. With Borat.

… and Kajaani was pretty cool outside the studio, too.

Had quite some hosting in Tampere.

Enjoyed the calmness of Helsinki.

… and the craziness of it.

Had a pulse over 170bpm.

Calmed down.

Enjoyed every drop of it.

Kept rain in Monbijou Park.

Raved at an abandoned spy station.

Found the best slogan of the year (upper left corner).

Visited the STASI prison.

Realized he’s just like me.

Enjoyed the street art.

… and the sunsets.

Visited abandoned children’s hospital.

Didn’t mind the late heat.

Had plenty of fun in Vaasa.

Northern Finland weekend 16.7.-18.7.

A funky weekend in Northern Finland coming up. On Friday 16.7. I’ll head to Kajaani’s #1 venue Club 96 with my dear friend DJ Kaasi. As usual, we play a full 6h set – it’s been a tradition for 7-8 years in a row already and it’s still a bliss to go there.

On Saturday Oulu-possé is organizing AEM Festival where the local music lovers not only share the breaks & beats but also spice the small-scale festival with saunas, beach volley fields and some crazy water activities. Very cool, very Finnish.

I’ll be playing a 1,5h super eclectic set at the festival before heading to Dyyni’s Sunburn event. It’s my 11th time in Dyyni, totally missed the 10th time celebrations, but let’s make the 11th time as special as the previous nights :) Three hour set expected, starting around 00:30. Kaasi does the warm-up, couldn’t be any better.

Good summery vibes, jump in to say hi if you’re around.

Rovaniemi & Kajaani

Hello north!

Next Friday and Saturday I’ll head to North of Finland to join my fellow DJ Kaasi. We’ll play two six hour sets, on Friday in Rovaniemi and Saturday in Kajaani. I’m happy to return to Rovaniemi, which still feels like a second home and excited to see Kajaani nightlife which has according to the rumours gotten very very good during the past year.

I’m not a big fan of back2back sets, but Kaasi must be one of the very few with whom it’s 100% happily freaky experience, time after time. Kaasi is a true professional with a great sense of music and an awesome attitude – it must be soon five years we’ve been touring like this together and it just gets better every time.

Another interesting b2b gig is coming next spring, with a musically very challenging and interesting artist, this time in South of Finland. Hoping to tell more about it soonish.

Not too Desperate

I must admit that Kajaani event on the Desperate Housedeejays mini-tour really surprised me. There were about 400 people (which is a lot – we’re talking about North-East Finland here) and very enjoyable atmosphere. The night took off after 00:30AM and there was absolutely no need for playing obvious hits – in addition to house it was about breaks, oldskoolish quality trance and techno.

To mention some highlights, especially Brothers in Rhythm remix of Placebo’s Every Me Every You, Phunk-A-Delic’s Rockin’ and Mauro Picotto’s Coldfunk made Club96 go crazy.

Met some very nice new friends and generally people seemed just to be happy and smiling. Either it was a successful night in their opinion, too – or they were just drunk enough ;)

And still – this must have been the best b2b gig with Kaasi, the erickmorillo of Northern Finland. It just gets better every time :)

We got a nice amount of footage – a timelapse movie of the whole night, photos and videoclips. Online pretty soon, I hope.

Kajaani ja Raahe

Kajaanin ja Raahen keikat ylittivät kaikki odotukset ja huolimatta vähästä unesta ja reilusta määrästä kilometrejä, oli päällimmäinen fiilis kokoajan mukavan rento.

Kajaanin Club96 on alueen ykkösyökerho. Kolmessa kerroksessa toimiva ruokaravintolan, baarin ja klubin onnistunut risteytys on loistava paikka klubitapahtumille. Tanssilattia on alimmassa kerroksessa hieman syrjässä, mutta täyttyi siitä huolimatta jo hyvässä vaiheessa iltaa.

Kaasin kanssa on menneen kesän ja syksyn aikana tehty reilusti yhteisiä keikkoja, joten soundi on tullut tutuksi puolin ja toisin. Ehkäpä siksikin tuntui luontevalta ilman ennakkosuunnitteluja vetää koko ilta back2back-soitantana.

Normaalisti jaettu soittovuoro nostaa riskiä soittaa erittäin epätasainen ja rikkonainen setti eikä varsinaisen kokonaisuuden tuntua synny. Nyt kuitenkin flow oli erinomainen, ehkäpä juuri tutun soundin ja pitkän kuuden tunnin setin myötä.

Kaasin kanssa jatkoimme seuraavana aamuna Raaheen, jossa ykkösyökerhon tunnelmista siirryttiin täysin eri maastoon. Bilepaikkana oli vanha panimo, joka vetää maksimissaan hieman toistasataa ihmistä illan aikana. Pieni, ahdas, matala tila maanpinnan alapuolella, paljon hippejä, rock-väkeä, tupakansavua, kynttilöitä, seinäkirjoituksia, puupöytiä – ja kunnon meininki :) Etenkin breiksut saivat porukkaan vauhtia, kuten videosta voi päätellä. Kaasi kuvasi videon lisäksi myös muutamia otoksia paikasta.

Loistoviikonloppu näin vuoden ehtoopuolelle.
