I’m really excited about this. The nice guys at DJ Mag asked me to do an official mix for their “DJ Mag presents” series. Because I’m working weekly quite radio friendly mixes for YleX, I decided to take a bit more undergroundish approach to this. Here’s a techno/house mix, which in my opinion is the best dancefloor orientated DJ mix which I’ve done in years. It’s a mixture of Helsinki’s Jack club’s sounds, the After Hours vibe and has been influenced a lot by the last 1,5 years in Berlin.

This weekend sees the most hectic schedule of the summer of 2011.
Friday: “9 – The Opening” @ Esplanadi, Helsinki
On Friday I’ll take a flight from Berlin to Helsinki to join the private event “9 – The Opening”. UU guys (which you might remember from last year’s UU Island) will be constructing a 400m2 venue on Esplanadi with Open Bar (drinks by Tuukka Ahonen & co.), some 4 hour lounge/house/electronica vibes from me and other surprises. It’s a semi private event, but if you can get an invitation to the Facebook event somewhere, it means you’re in. I still have 10 invitations left – if you want one, mail me your email address (it has to be the same you use for logging to Facebook) and I’ll mail you the invitation. The invitation includes avec.
Friday: Summer Heat, Vanhan YO-talon terassi, Helsinki
Right after UU closes its doors, I’ll head to Vanha. Summer Heat has gained lots of support this summer and is definitely one of the nicest weekly terrace events in Helsinki to check out. It’s not lounging but some seriously fun house music biznezz, grab your dance shoes and join the Gude Laune. I’ll be starting at 01:00. Check the Facebook event for more details.

XmiX: Sasha (UK)
If you can’t make it to the events, make sure to tune in to YleX at 23:00 for a weekly musical journey of XmiX. Sasha – the headliner of Love event in Circus on 23.7. – will be delivering a one hour crazycool XmiX and telling some news (for example about Involver 3) on the interview. In case you can’t check it live, you can always listen to it on Yle Areena on-demand one week after the broadcast.
Saturday: Tampere Rave City
After some 7 hours of DJing on Friday, I’ll take the train to the middle of Tampere-fiilis on this year’s Tammerfest craziness. This time the rave spirit takes over Pyynikin palloiluhalli with danish Funkstar DeLuxe headlining and Finnish Alex Kunnari, Joonas Hahmo, Tremont and me doing the warmup. To refer what’s happening in the video: Steve Angello’s Beatport #1 hit “KNAS” is basically put together from samples taken directly from Vengeance Future House Vol.3 package. You could make the same track with Ableton Live in two minutes. (The “hit melody” riff is “VFH2 128BPM Capone Kit : VFH2 128BPM Capone Melody 2”)
I think it was Sebastian Leger who first wrote on his Twitter about it some weeks ago, DJ Flight retweeted it soon after and finally Beatportal covered it this morning. Interestingly, the Beatportal post was removed in a couple of hours, as well as the video explaining the stunt.
When Angello’s doing tracks like that, I really can’t tell if he is arrogant, lacking skills or just plain stupid. Or is it the customer who is stupid when buying anything offered under the name of Swedish House Mafia? I really can’t tell any other artist who could (or even would try to) bring a track to Beatport TOP10 which is put together just from Vengeance samples.
edit: On his Twitter, Steve Angello was defending himself saying: “Everyone can sample . Its about finding the sample , how you use the sample , how you produce the track .. Look at every single hip hop track from gang starr , kanye west , jay z , to anyone u can name .. They always sample but makes a hit out of it .. Look at daft punk , even prodigy & chemical brothers Its easy to judge after the sample is discovered. Be the first to use it or stop judging.”
Comparing KNAS kind of sampling to Prodigy and Chemical Brothers doesn’t make Steve really look any smarter. D’oh!

Anything better in mind than taking a 1h 20min relaxing trip into deep, deep house? For the past year I’ve only compiled Radio 1 sets and left so-called artist mixes aside. As the holiday started and I had some extra time, I decided to gather together some of my deep house favs from 2008. I really enjoy good and moody deep house tracks even though I play sets like this very, very rarely. Consider it to be a small christmas present from me and if you like it, feel free to recommend it to your friend, too :)
