Misc. Management winter 2009 update & New Finnish talent in the house

By UncategorizedNo Comments

Dear friends and night life lovers!
Here is a short recap of what we Misc boys have been cooking this year, which was one of our busiest yet… We feel we want to share and thank you all for being a part of these great memories. Knowing when to say yes and when to say no is something we have gotten better at with age and experience. And my my my how many yesses had to be said in 2009!

JACK – Rocking Redrum

We joined Orkidea as the co-producers of Jack’s new beginning at Redrum. Line ups went from the new and old school DJ’s of Finland, to great legends of the world and one solo set by Orkidea. The nights turned out to be some of this year’s hottest, sweatiest and funnest parties in Helsinki. We will be closing our first JACK year with the biggest birthday party to date! Redrum will be headlined by Dave Seaman and the afterparty at Playground by Jody Wisternoff on the 21.11.2009!!!

CULTIVATE – Online TV Show

An online show about what’s bubbling under (and pouring out of the champagne glasses) in Helsinki was issued for Basso TV and Diesel. Oded Peled got dressed up with La Persé, beaten up on Vappu and left thirsty at Helsinki Design Week…

Check the episodes on the Diesel site: http://www.diesel.com/cult/cultivate/

LOVE – Brings us all together…

LOVE arrived in the summer. A fresh approach of building a club concept taught us so much and brought us light… Although there have only been 2 amazing parties to date, it feels as if a complete book could be written about the process of falling in love and the experiences it gave to people involved in it.

Pictures, videos and love stories can be found at : http://www.lovehelsinki.fi

DANCE. HERE. NOW. – All over the country

The club concept was planned to spread the sounds and vibes of our artists all over the country… And so it did. Our trips to Kouvola, Kajaani, Tampere, Kuopio, Joensuu, Hanko, Rovaniemi and Kalajoki have given us some great experiences and a deeper understanding of the club scene in Finland. A big thank you for dancing right there and then!!!

EXTREMELY MISCBEHAVING – Orkidea and his DJ Heros

Another fabulous night with Orkidea and friends at the packed Helsinki Club… A smooth musical journey downstairs and an upstairs filled with new DJ Heros. The after-party at Playground was hosted by Orion and kept you dancing till the morning light. Extreeeeeemely fun !

ORKIDEA 23 HOUR SET – 2010, Here we come!
As if only to keep the bar very high, the first day of 2010 will start with a historical event, when Orkidea will play the longest set in his life. A 23 hour supermegamarathon at Redrum and Copacabana. Probably and possibly the last time something like this happens in Finland. Unless some other nutcase does it :)

A big thank you to all of you, that came and made the nights unforgettable… We hope to share more nights together with you.

Pete Tong interview

Beat Dis by Bomb the Bass (1988) features the ...

Pete Tong states:

“Well I’ve always said that when Acid House was happening in the say 1987, it was like the equivalent of Punk in how it affected rock n roll and progressive rock that went before it. A lot of people, therefore, don’t remember anything before punk and I think the same goes for dance music, a lot of people just wipe the slate clean and that nothing existed before raves came along and those types of parties.”

A really interesting Pete Tong interview – Where did it all go Pete Tong?!?

Love – the official Madonna Hard Candy concert afterparty

By UncategorizedNo Comments

Love Story #1 – The Event

Some say that first love is the strongest. And it really did feel like it on our opening night with Pete Tong. 1300 people came together and created a vibe that will stay with us forever. The red dance-floor resembled a beating heart, that pumped life for a beautiful summer Sunday.

The second LOVE will be held on an historic night in Helsinki. On the 6th of August, 90 000 people will see the iconic Madonna performing in Finland, for the first time ever. The whole country will be listening, watching and stepping into the groove of the Queen of pop.

Warming up the crowd at the concert is another legend, Paul Oakenfold. After being voted the worlds best DJ twice, holding residencies in some of Europe’s biggest clubs and headlining festivals, Paul headed to Hollywood in 2001. In 8 years he has worked on major soundtrack projects, production work for the worlds biggest artists and the best club residency in America.

With the full support of Madonna’s label ‘Warner Music’ and her tour organizer ‘Live Nation’, the people of LOVE are ecstatic of being apart of such an historical day. Mr Oakenfold will be headlining the party, supported by the legends of Finnish electronica. This will be the last LOVE event of 2009 and a classic closing to an amazing Summer.

LOVE. Brings us all together.

DJ Orion newsletter, summer 2009

By Radio, UncategorizedNo Comments

Hello hello!

The famous Finnish summer has started (famous for not being sunny and warm as summers usually are:) and it’s a good chance to put together a newsletter of some sort. It’s been an incredible 2009 so far and there are plenty of interesting things to come – here are some selected newsbits.

*** Coldplay – Viva La Vida (Flight & Jontey meet DJ Orion bootleg remix) ***

Early this year I joined Flight & Jontey, a Tampere-based house duo, to make an exclusive bootleg remix for this year’s Labyrinth // Laserpoint event. After the event, a couple of copies were given out and the response was really nice. By now not only for example Tiesto and Jaytech have given thumbs-up for the track but over 100 Scandinavian DJs are playing it regularly. A summer tune for sure :) Thanks for all the nice feedback we’ve gotten for the track – and if you happen not be familiar with the tune, you can check it at YouTube.

*** In the studio with J.Shore and Flight&Jontey ***

Talking about Flight & Jontey, we’re still getting together in the studio this June. Their house & dnb background combined with a bit more proggy influenced taste of mine resulted in nice combos last time and I can’t wait to share the much talked Tampere-fiilis with them again :)
A week ago I finally found time to share a studio with my brother, J.Shore, and continue the chill-out project we started last year with One Sunday and Brotherhood tracks. The result was three new chill-out tracks, which still need some days of work, but I’m hoping to have some samples online by the end of June.

*** DJ Orion – Brotherhood ***

The remixes of Brotherhood, a sequel for One Sunday are now ready. I was really, really happy with the One Sunday remixes and once again the remixers went beyond all the expectations. Ayleon, Flight&Jontey and Anton Sonin deliver their interpretations – something for everyone: Ayleon’s trancey remix, Flight&Jontey’s house&proghouse version and Anton’s progressive trance remix are available for listen at http://orion.reaktio.net/2009/02/dj-orion-brotherhood/.

*** Mango, DJ Orion, J.Shore – Raining In Osaka ***

The Russian-Finnish co-op track “Mango, DJ Orion & J.Shore – Raining In Osaka” climbed the Beatport prog house charts after its release and got very nice feedback. The last version, “Raining In Osaka (DJ Orion & J.Shore remix)” will be released on Mango Alley Recordings sampler in August. Available for listen here: http://orion.reaktio.net/2009/03/mango-orion-jshore-raining-in-osaka-mango-alley/

*** Love ***

After last year’s Metaverse tour, we at Misc. Management have been working together with DJ Orkidea & Jack club, running nights at Redrum with guests like Nick Warren and Matthew Dekay.
Over half a year ago we started planning a new concept called “Love” and to keep it short, you can read more here: http://orion.reaktio.net/2009/05/theres-something-about-love/
We’ve been really busy with the Love opening night, happening on 5.7.2009 with Pete Tong (BBC Radio 1, UK) headlining. Busy or not – it’s anyway been great to be a part of the concept and share the Love to music and club culture :) If you feel like looking, the website is now open at www.lovehelsinki.fi

*** Schedule ***

Despite of all the fun described above, lately I’ve needed to say to “no” to several interesting possibilities, projects, gigs and events. I’m having a short gig break until October, 2009 and concentrating on something which has been by far the most fascinating experience of my life. I’m becoming father in early September – and needless to say, I want to save some quality time to get most out of the days before (and after) the birth :)

*** YleX Tiistain Tanssi-ilta ***

Even though I’ve reduced the amount of gigs, the beats at Tiistain Tanssi-ilta will be served regularly every second Tuesday on YleX at 21:00.
One of the most exciting upcoming shows is on 21.7.2009 when we’ll be having the Tom Middleton retrospective, a show presenting Tom’s whole career in one hour. Not an easy task, but luckily we got help from Tom himself, who will be hosting the one-hour show personally. This is a very, very rare occasion and really worth listening.

Thanks for reading this far – you can catch up with the latest stuff on my blog or download the latest mixes via the podcast, both available at http://orion.reaktio.net

edit: For more news about DJ Taucher remix of Brotherhood & the upcoming gig @ Park Theater, Germany, see here.

Cheeerio! :)

There’s something about Love.

By UncategorizedNo Comments

LOVE, 5.7.2009, Poster

During the past weeks and days you might have come up with a new club concept, which is launching in Helsinki in early July. The event series has a big name, Love, but the name also tells it all: it’s been made with love to music, to club culture and to people who share the same vibes. It brings us all together.

If you thought Love is korny, it’s a stupid cliché or that people don’t speak about love anymore, check the Love website which presents Love from Twitter is real time. Love is all around us.

I’m very happy that Misc possé (Oded, Asaf and me) are again working with DJ Orkidea and the whole Unity crew. It’s been more than a year after we got together to think through to the concept even close to this size and after the experiences on Metaverse tour, I just can’t wait Love to happen.

On the opening night 5.7.2009, held at the biggest and finest new venue in Helsinki, The Circus, Pete Tong makes his debut gig in Finland. It’s been estimated that over 30 million people hear Pete’s each BBC Radio 1 show which is just h.u.g.e crowd. In comparison, the last episode of Conan O’Brien’s talk show was seen by 3,5 million people. He is one of the most influencial trendsetters of electronic music and the second oldest radio voice on BBC Radio 1.
Culturally speaking, club culturally to be frank, I think Pete Tong is easily among the most important DJ visitors Finland has seen in years.
(And if you thought Pete Tong is a big name, just wait for the upcoming nights… :)

Below is a Love story of Pete Tong. To get more information about the night, why not visit Love Facebook event

Love Story 2: The Artist

There are many reasons why Pete Tong has been called ‘The most powerful person in dance music’ by Muzik Magazine. Or even ‘The god of dance music’ by The Independent. It might be the fact that on a weekly basis, there are more than 30 million live listeners to his BBC1 radio shows ‘Essential Selection’ and ‘Essential Mix’. It might also be the fact that Daft Punk, Underworld, Tiësto, Basement Jaxx, Justice, Eric Prydz and pretty much everybody in dance music hope to get him to be the first to introduce their music to the world. Maybe it’s the fact that since releasing the first ever house music compilation in the UK — ‘The House Sound of Chicago Vol 1’ in 1986 — he has sold millions of compilations for brands such as Pacha, Ministry of Sound, Cream, Mixmag and his very own FFRR label where he’s signed such artists as Orbital and Goldie.

As the icon that he is, Tong was the inspiration behind the film “It’s All Gone Pete Tong”. As a producer he has assembled the music for movie soundtracks such as The Beach, Human Traffic and 24 Hour Party People, and has produced his own material under various guises. He’s one of the biggest crowd pullers in clubland, including his legendery residencies at Pacha Ibiza and Ministry of Sound in London, and headlining slots all over the globe. It seems as if everything Pete touches turns into a long-lasting memory. Which explains why he’s one of the most sought after figures in a scene that’s built around music that turns into an experience.

The dance scene has changed a lot since Pete started, but one thing remains the same: “People love music, make no mistake about that, whether and how they buy it right now is one thing, but people still want to party… it’s our job to come up with new parties, new nights, new venues, new themes to keep the scene fresh and exciting.” Pete still sees his vocation as he did when he started out, playing other people’s records to get an audience dancing. “We need to constantly remember why people want to come to clubs – which is simply to have a great time and feel the music.” And here we are, ready to do just that.

LOVE is delighted to have Mr. Tong play his debut gig in Finland on a night that will be remembered for a long time.

Finnish music on Pete Tong’s Fast Trax

By UncategorizedNo Comments

Pete Tong’s Fast Trax show has Bedroom Bedlam Chart section which introduces three tracks from bedroom producers. The biggest tracks can be signed to Bedroom Bedlam label. This week Bedroom Bedlam Chart includes a summer filter house track from Tampere, Finland: Flight & Jontey – Sangria. Support the Finnish talents and give your vote. No registration needed for voting.

Funny coindidence: While I’m writing this I end up reading that Peter Gabriel thinks internet has a bad influence on music (article in Finnish). Right…

Anyway, congratulations to Flight & Jontey – No doubt you’ll hear Sangria on the next (24.6.) Tiistain Tanssi-ilta, too.
