JACK is turning 10 years old!!! Since his early days in Kerma, the always fresh clubnight has given you the power to jack your body! Rosegarden, Kuudes Linja, Playground, YK and now Venue have seen crowd attendance records broken again and again. And these parties weren’t only attended, they rocked the venues upside down.
Tens of different international guest DJ’s visited JACK. Nick Warren, Dave Seaman, Matthew Dekay and Ian Ossia to name but only a few. For this very special night, we are glad, excited and honored to have the undisputed king of Nu Disco come and play a set that will take us to the true roots of House music. Aeroplane has left his mark on the music world through his remixes for Sebastien Tellier, Cassius and Chromeo, his own hits like ‘We Can’t Fly’ and ‘Caramellas’ and is one of the most followed tastemakers in the blogosphere. Awesome night, great sets, happy people and a sold-out night. It was great to test drive Funktion One soundsystem for the first time, too – no wonder they’re saying Redrum has the best DJ booth and sound in Finland. Thanks to everyone involved, more jackjackjack in March.
This Saturday we’ll celebrate Jack’s first year in Redrum – and what a year it has been. Dave Seaman, Nick Warren & Jody Wisternoff sharing the same DJ booth, Matthew Dekay rocking the house at Jean Michel Jarre‘s concert unofficial afterparty, summer vibes at Danceteria cruise afterparty and much more.
I’m really looking forward to the upcoming year – it seems there will be more One & Love events and the future of Jack looks bright too. This Saturday, at Jack’s 2010 season opening, I’ll be joining the decks with the finest and most promising house talents at the moment: morning party hero Paul Easy, fresh prog house duo Something Good, Visions DJ’s from Playground and Romance head-honcho DJ Flight.
This is also my first time behind Redrum’s decks and I’m really excited of finally getting into the groove with much-talked Funktion One soundsystem. They say Redrum has easily the best DJ booth in Finland – can’t wait to get a hands-on experience :)

New year brings new DJs again! After some foreign legends visiting the Redrum booth recently we’ll have a traditional fresh DJs night at JACK in January. This is surely no bedroom DJ set up but in our opinion a collection of best and most current DJ talent Finland has to offer in the year 2010: SOMETHING GOOD guys who’ve been rocking Diskobar Loop for months and who are debuting at Danceteria in December, JAAGO and NIP ONE from Playground’s finest up’n’coming DJ collective Visions DJs, hypnotic tech(no) house sensei PAUL EASY, YleX/Misc promoter/artist DJ ORION and FLIGHT who rocked big time the Pacifique and Laserpoint main stages in 2009. All the fun will be hosted by ORKIDEA and PELED BROS. Last January’s similar night was sold out and one of Redrum’s alltime record nights. In January it’s again time to Ja-Ja-Ja-Jack Your Body!

Seven years of house music. Jack’s come a long way… I remember hearing about a club called Jack when I was still living in Rovaniemi and all the hype caught my eye instantly. It was a fresh concept right from the beginning and gave everyone a possibility to hear both veteran DJs and fresh talents under one roof. It also was – at least for me – one of clubs to make house music easily approachable, fresh and hip again. And I’m sure many house purists disagree with me here ;)
Jack landed to Rovaniemi in 2004, if I recall right. It was supposed to be a one-off night, but after an instant success and a sold-out night, people ended up going crazy with Jay Mellin, Milla Lehto, Dallas Superstars, Mr.A, Lil’Tony, Orkidea, Tomi K, Uke and KimiK during the next 2,5 years.
When I moved to Helsinki in 2006 I was asked to join the team to produce Jack and during the past years I’ve felt more than priviledged to be a part of such an innovative, creative and happy team and pushing forward Helsinki house music scene.
The past year in Redrum has been one of the most successful in Jack’s history. We’ve seen Nick Warren, Matthew Dekay and Gavyn Mytchel behind the decks, rocked with Fresh talents in January and co-produced Danceteria cruise afterparty – many of those with sold-out status.
Lé grande finale of this year – however – still goes one step further. Jack will celebrate its seventh anniversary for full 14 hours, starting at 22:00 on Saturday, 21.11.2009. Dave Seaman will rock the main event in Redrum and Jody Wisternoff headlines the afterparty at Playground. Finnish jocks include Orkidea, Mr.A, Peled Brothers and me. I’ll be warming up the floor at 05:00-06:30 at the afterparty (do you really need to call it a warm-up after a 6 hour mayhem in Redrum?:) and preparing the things for Jody.

JACK – Rocking Redrum
We joined Orkidea as the co-producers of Jack’s new beginning at Redrum. Line ups went from the new and old school DJ’s of Finland, to great legends of the world and one solo set by Orkidea. The nights turned out to be some of this year’s hottest, sweatiest and funnest parties in Helsinki. We will be closing our first JACK year with the biggest birthday party to date! Redrum will be headlined by Dave Seaman and the afterparty at Playground by Jody Wisternoff on the 21.11.2009!!!
CULTIVATE – Online TV Show
An online show about what’s bubbling under (and pouring out of the champagne glasses) in Helsinki was issued for Basso TV and Diesel. Oded Peled got dressed up with La Persé, beaten up on Vappu and left thirsty at Helsinki Design Week…

LOVE – Brings us all together…
LOVE arrived in the summer. A fresh approach of building a club concept taught us so much and brought us light… Although there have only been 2 amazing parties to date, it feels as if a complete book could be written about the process of falling in love and the experiences it gave to people involved in it.

ORKIDEA 23 HOUR SET – 2010, Here we come!
As if only to keep the bar very high, the first day of 2010 will start with a historical event, when Orkidea will play the longest set in his life. A 23 hour supermegamarathon at Redrum and Copacabana. Probably and possibly the last time something like this happens in Finland. Unless some other nutcase does it :)

One of my very early sources of inspiration and fascination lands to Helsinki tonight. Jean Michel Jarre’s “Musik Aus Zeit Und Raum” was among the first LPs I’ve bought and as a teenager I was stunned by the TV broadcasts of his shows in Paris and other massive outdoor venues. This tour, however, is held indoors in its whole, but I’m expecting nothing less.
Jack organizes the unofficial afterparty at Redrum after the concert. Indigo, Orkidea and Matthew Dekay serve the beats. What comes to progressive house jocks, Mr.Dekay is certainly among my favourites. Beautiful Monday/Fucking Friday release on Deep Records turned my eyes on him in 2003 and his releases have been on heavy rotation ever since. Jack is also part of Helsinki Techno City which combines the clubs of Mr.A, Lil’Tony, Eliot Ness and DJ Orkidea under one roof.

It feels like it’s only a couple of months ago when Ian Ossia visited Jack on the club’s 4th birthday. This Friday Jack turns five and Jody Wisternoff from the Way Out West fame hits the decks. Jody is one of my long time favourites, not only because of his fantastic monthly podcast but also his Way Out West tracks, reaching back to ’97. From the local heroes, the original Jack residents DJ Orkidea and Lil’Tony join Jody to warm up the dance floor. Partyparty!
edit: Unfortunately Jody has cancelled his gig due to problems with his sciatic nerve (back pain, in plain English). Mr.A will be replacing and Jack will see all the original residents behind the decks.
