This weekend sees most likely the biggest club event of the year in Vaasa and its surroundings. Fantasia, held now for the second time, lands to Tropiclandia, Vaasa’s indoor spa with a massive lineup of 17 DJs and live acts and 3 separate stages.
Last year some 600-700 people showed up, but now it seems the word of 2010 event’s amazing vibe has done its thing and this year’s Fantasia will be sold out to its full capacity, 1200 people.
While choosing your bikinis, speedos or Borat-style trousers, it’s good to warm up by checking some photos from last year or even some video footage shot at the event. Here’s my tracklist from last year’s partiee, too.
I’ll be playing the second last set at the main stage, after the almighty K-System who has promised to try (literally) some stagediving and before Syna who will be finishing the night. I’m really looking forward to give the first plays to a couple of brand new re-edits as well as Michael Cassette’s remix of Orion & J.Shore’s The Night After.

Amazing party on Saturday in Seinäjoki. 700 people packed to a two-dancefloor venue, the other floor serving the finest dubstep, breaks & drum’n’bass and other being mainly house/trance four-on-the-floor madness. I started with Ashley Wallbridge’s intro version of Gareth Emery’s Arrival, continued in a more proghouse mood and after a couple of more technoish numbers ended the night with some well known trance tunes. It was a pleasure to see 4 Strings version of Slusnik Luna’s going down really fine as well as Feijk’s & Davidson’s Buzz Kill and (naturally) Chase&Status – Blind Faith as an encore.
Big, big thank-yous to everyone coming there and making the night that special and hats off to Fiksaatio possé (always a pleasure to be there!) and my fellow jocks Timo, Sami, Genki and co.

MONDAY-TUESDAY 2.8.-3.8.2010 – STUDIO DAYS W/ HEIKKI L
I bet it can’t get too easily as busy and exotic as this week is going to be. We started on Monday a two-day studio session with Heikki L, doing a cover/remake of an oldskool rave classic “Bizarre Inc – Playing With Knives” (video behind the link & embedded below). Feeling the early 90’s vibe? In addition to updating the rave piano riff to 2010, we also learned those dance moves, dressed up like MC Hammer and watched all seasons of Melrose Place.
WEDNESDAY 4.8.2010 – PLAYING AT 10000 PEOPLE SCOUT CAMP / JAMBOREE
On Wednesday, 4.8, I’ll head to the woods of Hämeenlinna where over 10000 boy- and girlscouts are having the biggest scout camp in Finland. The camp ends on Thursday and on Wednesday night there’s a biiig party where I was invited. In addition to me, Jangler from Ylivieska.org will take care of the breaks and beats. This must be among the most exotic gig experiences and I’m really excited to get there to enjoy the camp atmosphere and rave with the mosquitoes. THURSDAY 5.8.2010 – ASSEMBLY RAVE @ HARTWALL AREENA
The exotic vibe continues on Thursday @ Helsinki’s Hartwall Areena. There’s an annual Assembly demo party, a demoscene and gaming event (see wikipedia), which gathers around 5000 attendees every year. I’ve never been in the middle of 5000 people madly excited about computers – which sounds like a crazy amount of glowing screens and endless sound of tapping keyboards. Where’s the survival guide?
For those needing a well earned break after sitting the whole day at their computers, there’s a three day rave party starting on Thursday at midnight. I’ll be starting the event full-on right after midnight, warming up the floor for DJ Proteus, who never needs any kind of a warm up ;) Thanks to Pasi @ Sequence for the invitation, let’s rave until the blue screen appears! FRIDAY 6.8.2010 – BASS ATTACK @ VAAKUNA, MIKKELI
On Friday I’ll head to Mikkeli, which itself is exotic enough to fit to this week’s theme. The nice possé from Guru entertainment have been organizing a summer club @ Vaakuna and I’ll be headlining on Friday with a proper 2,5h set. The event will be held at Vaakuna, Facebook event is here. It’s actually my first visit to Mikkeli ever, looking forward to see the city and the nightlife. Come drop by if you’re around.
SATURDAY 7.8.2010 – FANTASIA @ TROPICLANDIA WATERPARK, VAASA
The travel continues on Saturday to Vaasa to finalize the exotic week with some über-exoticness. Fiksaatio possé have been doing some great parties during the past years, not only in Seinäjoki, but also in nearby cities and pulled some well earned attention towards them. Now, to end a memorably hot summer in Finland, Fiksaatio organizes a massive party “Fantasia” in a local spa/waterpark Tropiclandia with 15 top-class DJs and live acts (Alex Kunnari, Joonas Hahmo, Flight, Syna, OlliS, Ville Lope, Sami Saari…), 32C heat and a vibe to remember. Needless to say, the event is definitely something unique in the area and definitely worth checking, I’m really happy to have a possibility to be part of it. I had really, really good time visiting Seinäjoki for the first time after ’03 or ’04. Over 700 happily smiling people, awesome lineup, pikkujoulu and one hell of a queue outside guaranteed a p-a-r-t-y. I tested a couple of new edits of ours which went down nicely – one of my favourite moments was the crowd chanting lyrics of Prodigy – Narayan (Orion & Flight re-edit) and going mental with Sami Saari’s Electric Love and Ayleon’s remix of Brotherhood.
Big, big thanks to Syna possé for the invitation (was grreat to see them playing live after a while) and to my fellow DJs Flight, Infekto, Ville Lope, Echostep & Andy K for a good company – not to forget the ever-crazy pohojammaa crowds :) Hoping not to have another 5 year break before returning back there again.

This weekend sees another set of quality events, this time in Seinäjoki & Tampere. On Friday I’ll be heading to the clubbing capital of Pohjanmaa, where grand old Fiksaatio possé have been influencing the local scene for already some time and I was really happy of being invited to their last winter event for this year. Held at Karma, the event also presents Infekto, Syna, Flight, Andy K, Ville Lope and Echostep. I’ll be playing the last slot, starting at 01:30.

On Sunday I’ll be joining Tabu’s Sunday Fun chill-out event in Tampere. Getting behind decks to play chill-out is a rare sight, but I’m really looking forward to this one. Sunday Fun concept sounds very promising – cheap booze, huge sofas, board games, comics and Tampere-fiilis(tm) can never go wrong. It’s our independence day, too, so there might be an extra amount of domestic quality chill-out, classics and some new DJ Orion & J.Shore productions in the air. The set should start between 21:00 & 22:00 and last around 2,5h.
